Importing Contacts

In this article: Step by step guide on how to import your contacts into Publisher.

Importing contacts into Publisher sounds like the domain of IT, but it is really simple.

To commence the process, go to the Contacts section in Publisher and click on the ‘Import Contacts’ button at the bottom of the page. This will start the 8 step process.

Step 1: Select CSV File

Click on the 'Choose File' button to search for the .csv file you wish to upload.

If it is not saved as a .csv file you will need to do so before it can be imported (refer Help sheet Importing Contacts – non *.csv format). 

Next, select a project you wish to import the file to which ensures it will be stored in the correct area within Publisher .  Publisher will not allow you to upload a file unless you do this.

Click Next.

 

Step 2: Organise CSV

 This step allows you to check that the data will upload correctly, so have a look that the column names match the content.  If you need to, drag the titles to match the column.

Click Next.

 

Step 3: Import Method

Publisher will automatically import your contacts and match these on email addresses.  Alternatively, if you want to determine which import modes you want to match to, such as a customer number, you can select the manual option.

Click Next

NB: If choose to let Publisher do it automatically, you will skip straight to Step 5.

 

Step 4: Match Columns (Manual Import Method Only)

 

Based on your data, you need to manually select which field(s) to match the data.

Click Next

 

Step 5: Interests

 

Click and drag available interests that are relevant to your contact list from the right column to the left column.

Click Next

 

Step 6: Options

This step allows you to tell Publisher which version of the database is the most current, as well as its precedence over any existing data once the file is imported.

Step 7:  Summary

Step 8: Finished

 These last two steps provide an overview of all the options selected and the status of the uploading.

CSV Upload

Now that you have completed the 8-step process, go to the ‘Contact’ navigation menu and select the ‘CSV Upload’ tab, then select you file number.  This will provide a summary of all the contacts uploaded in terms of how many are new, existing, rejected, deleted, and unchanged. 

 

Summary Email

Finally, to confirm the status of your file upload you will receive an email with all the contact details summarising the above information contained in the CSV Upload section.
