In this article: Understanding the components of the link editor and how to use them.
On many Publisher templates, using the Link Editor makes it possible to insert a link to:
- a URL
- a page on the Publisher site
- a file stored in Publisher
- or an email address
To commence this step you will need to locate and click on the chain symbol to open the Link Editor

This window will pop up. You can now put the appropriate source for the link you are editing.
URL - link to a website
- URL - paste in the full URL address you wish to link to. Be sure to include the full address, commencing with 'http://www....'
- Link Text - the text you see and click on to go to link.
- Link Description - the text that appears when you hover the mouse over the link.
- Open in new window - tick this box if you want the linked site to open in a new window.
Page in this site - link to a page in Publisher
- Page in this site - choose a page from the drop-down list of the website's pages.
- Link Text - the text you see and click on to go to link.
- Link Description - the text that appears when you hover the mouse over the link.
- Open in new window - tick this box if you want the linked site to open in a new window.
File in Publisher - link to a file
- File in Publisher - choose a file in Publisher to link to.
- Link Text - the text you see an click on to go to link.
- Link Description - the text that appears when you hover the mouse over the link.
- Open in new window - tick this box if you want the linked site to open in a new window.
E-mail Address - link to e-mail
- E-mail Address - type in an e-mail address to be contacted at.
- Subject - type in a short description that will help you identify if this query came from the website.
- Link Text - the text you see and click on to go to link.
- Link Description - the text that appears when you hover the mouse over the link.
When you're done, click 'Save Changes'.
